Hello all, thought i should do a set of starter guides for X3:AP. This guide will only help you on the custom game preset, but some sections might apply to both the custom and nostalgic argon presets and some of the other presets. If you want to have a "main" game i reccomend nostalgic argon because that is basicly the custom preset with storylines and achievements, the downside is you can't mod the game.

Claiming Ships. Suggested Guides. Let's start off with some basics, talk to the fight school pilot, he will give you your first ever mission should you chose to accept it, every preset has one to accept this mission target his ship by left clicking on him, click open communication or hit C and hit the first option or simply tap 1 he will tell you how to fly, target objects, opening the comm links, requesting docking permission i reccomend using autopilot for a while untill you get used to X3AP , firing your ship's main weapons aswell as loading and firing missiles.

After that get some Impulse Ray immiters at the equipment station at Argon Prime to fill all of your weapon slots, max out your shields and if possible fully upgrade your ship. Do some missions to earn some money when you're low, i reccomend recover abandoned ship missions and if they are close enough, easy one ship kill missions agenst weak ships like fighters and fully upgrade your buster and save up for your next fighter, also protect station missions are an easy way to get cash because it doesn't matter how they die you still get the cash.

Also check your ship's maximum shield notice i said ship not fighter because you can use corvett's frigates and even captical ships by going to it's info page in the ship catagory which is represented by a ship to the left of your screen, heres an example Argon's Mammoth TL transporter can carry a max of 5 MJ shield gens this is equal to a GJ shield there is such thing as a GJ shield which is mainly found on frigates and missile frigates like the paranid deimos and a 2GJ shield for carriers and destroyers like argon's Collossis Carrier and Ttian Destroyer and the AI ship called Argon One, Argon's flagship.

Remember to save often, this game can be really punishing if you don't save after completing a large task like a large completly outfitting a large ship or before a big change like building a station. Ok, in this part we are going to assume that you have a big area discovered arround Argon Prime because you have been doing missions to earn cash to fully upgrade your Buster, keep doing those missions so you can earn enough cash for a new ship i reccomend a Nova M3 or an Elite M4 fighter.

Also get a trading system extension this is very useful for buying ships at the shipyard of having other ships docked at a dock like a trading station or equipment dock and by checking the stations info you can see whats in stock, also look at your notariaty level you earn notariaty by protecting ships or destroying invaders , doing missions for a faction's people or killing the faction's enemies in their terratory i don't reccomend that with eather Buster, Nova or Elite as they will rape you with their frigates and capital ships if you arn't paying atention or even when you are.

Another good way to raise your rep with a particular faction is buying from them. You need to be a level spacific level to buy ships or specific equipment from factions. Also for those who eather have subs subtitles on or were paying atention when your ship computer says "you are being promoted" you were eather getting a rank up for your combat or trading rank was going up or "you have gained recognition" if a faction rank goes up, the higher your combat rank or trade rank the harder the missions they will offer you and the more the "easy" and "average" missions will pay.

Also try to get a police licence so you can scan ships in a faction's terratory useful for ship hijack missions as you have to scan before you attack and the scanning for illegal goods mission also you earn money if you kill "invaders" based on how much of an annoyance they have been the prizes from what i've seen you get are , , 1,, 5,, 10, and , and is another useful way to get cash.

Thread starter bubbles Start date Dec 18, I bought myself an early Christmas present and downloaded this off Steam at the weekend, because I'd heard good things about it and I like games that involve flying around in space. Unfortunately, due to various sound problems that took a lot of messing about and a lot of time to fix, I couldn't play the storyline game so I've started a freeform game instead. I started this on the normal difficulty setting, which gave me a nice fast ship with reasonable guns and a shield and not much money.

I've been playing for about 6 hours now, maybe a bit longer but don't seem to have got anywhere and here's why: Everything takes a really long time and is really complicated. Drifting lazily through space admiring the scenery and the scenery really is fucking impressive is nice but is not a game.

There seems to be no difficulty scaling. Near the beginning, I took on a small group of pirates and destroyed two of them while nearby NPCs killed the third. Not long after, a single pirate attacked me and destroyed my ship in a single volley. I was not pleased. Profits from trading are meagre. I found a vaguely profitable trade route between three systems which I exploited for two runs before it inexplicably collapsed the station I was selling to halved the price at which they were prepared to buy my wheat There's not much else to do.

Killing NPC pirates doesn't seem to have any effect - I don't get any money for it. There are supposed to be NPC missions in stations but these are too rare to be useful and pay pitiful rewards. Even when I find a profitable trade route, or a well-paying mission or something, half the time I get told that I need more notoriety or something before I can buy the thing or accept the mission or even dock at the station.

I'm trying not to do a ghost whistler here and complain that it's too hard It's probably a great game but it puts far too many barriers up that seem designed to slow down the player's progress as much as possible that it sometimes feels like punishment rather than play.

So what I wondered was: is there some really obvious tactic or aspect of gameplay that I'm missing? Have I mistakenly selected 'punishingly tedious' setting in some menu somewhere or forgotten the key shortcut that activates the fun module on my ship?

Please help me because I want to like this game, it cried out to be liked but all I see is that in the last hour I've made credits in profit and only need another 49, to repair the damage to my ship.
